by Muddy Waters inso, according to the new light, as presented at the agm (annual general meeting) last year in october 2012, (and being studied from the july 15/2013 wt in this month of september), whereby the faithful & discrete slave (fds) is now designated to mean the governing body only (and only when they come together as a group!!

Island Man is right - it doesn't matter what you say - if they have woken up, nothing makes any difference they just won't listen! My wife is exactly like that - I have presented her with virtually everything that is wrong with the WBTS and it is water off a duck's back - SHE JUST WON'T LISTEN - so what if Rutherford was a ratbag and he was supposedly appointed by Jesus - they will find a rationaization that makes this okay.

What's in it for them? (GB)
by SyntaxError1974 inif the wbts is just another business?
then what do the gb get out of all this?.
tim cook (ceo apple) makes around 378 million a year.. donald trump makes around 60 million a year.. i understand the wbts may have vast property holdings, stocks, bonds, and revenue from donations.. but i can't grasp the incentive for the gb to make this stuff up.

boc - 'Also consider that any organization this large takes on a life of it's own- at a point the whole system exists for the sake of existence.' This is a very importnat point. The organization is self-perpetuating - if any GB member sees the light and quits another will step in. The organization looks after them as long as they look after the organization. It is a symbiotic relationship.

As everyone else has said - it is not always about the money - it is The Power and The Glory - far more satisfying than cash. What better ego boost than thinking you are God's messenger with sole access to the Truth; or at least that millions believe you are God's messenger with sole access to the Truth, even if you know or suspect you are not.

I imagine it was similar to how Stalin wrested control of the Soviet Communist Party from Trotsky after the death of Lenin - plain dirty tricks in the pursuit of power for its own sake. It is amazing that none of the four directors who opposed Rutherford ended up with an ice axe in the back of their heads.

Another Witness Goes on about Syria and the Big "A"
by Wasanelder Once inwas speaking with a jw about an issue of mutual interest and he went on about how close we are to the end and "we just dont know how this syria situation may turn the un against religion".
gimme a break.
but this time, first ever, there was despair in his voice as if he didn't believe it any longer.

The Soviet Union used to be the king of the north - they are still clutching at straws - when one goes away they grab onto to the next one desperate to avoid cognitive dissonance. It would be interesting to count how many different signs that armageddon is coming soon have been identified and abandoned over the years. It must be in the hundreds if not the thousands.

hi mp - did an honours thesis on US foreign policy and interventions during the Cold War - I am very familiar with US interventionism and how bad it has been recently and was before Vietnam but between and the 2nd Gulf War (the 1st Gulf War was a sensible and measured response to Saddam's invasion of Kuwait; and Somalia was misconcieved but relatively harmless) it was significantly curtailed unitl George W made the mistake of getting involved in Afghanistan and Iraq. I still maintain that the strength of the US military is primarily defensive and actually decreases global conflict by acting as a deterrent. I can see why it looks like an oxymoron but you do need to recognise we are in a period of unparalleled peace and the strength of the US military is one of the reasons for that.

Nice to see that Australians are world leaders in resisting WBTS BS - a triubute to our education system and critical thinking skills.

mP - that is harsh - no one deserves that - it is not karma. I suppose you think the young officer killed in London by two Islamic fundamentalists also deserved it - seems you are still stuck in a particular mindset. It is fine to oppose ogvernment foreign policy that promotes war like US invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq and the proposed strikes on Syria - but the individuals who work in the military or support industry for the military are pawns in the system and like it or not apart from US adventurism by the likes of George W, the role of the miliatary is generally a defensive one .

Chapstick - brilliant incisive analysis! NOT - the British Empire ceased to exist as such a long time ago - if your analysis was correct armageddon would have been early last century or the century before. Like every other financial crisis, the system has survived the global financial crisis of 2007 and 2008 and regulatory structures and measures have been strengthened as a result. Financial systems and are cyclical and go through booms and busts but never ones that destroy the system in the way you suggest. Investors lose money because they make bad investment decisions and become over enthusiastic when the market is close to its peak or because they don't understand the risks either because they don't check or because the risks are not fully explained. The financial system is in a recovery stage at the moment.
Revelations, like everything else in the Bible, is a product of its times - Babyon the Great was a reference to the ROMAN EMPIRE and 666 was a reference to Nero. They thought that Armageddon would come to destroy the evil Roman empire but surprise surprise it didn't happen. Some student of history you are! You are clutching at straws to support your Bible based phobias. Wake up and smell the coffeee - the Bible has never predicted any event in world history and enever will. And get yourself an education and get some critical thinking skills before you put forward some idiotic theory in the future.
